Teoria e prática sobre as Cadeias de Markov

Abstract

This paper has a double objective: to describe the Markov Chains theory in a practical way as well as to show its application in the water quality analysis. The practical application here described is related to the mercury presence in superficial waters in concentrations above the established limit. This is an important issue that has been the object of recent studies in order to understand the mercury transference mechanisms from the sediment to the water and vice-versa.
