The formation of gaseous and particulate fluotides are a result of the primary alluminum production process. Such fluorides reach the atmosphere and pollute it. The influence of atmospheric pollution from an alluminum plant, located in Ouro Preto -Minas Gerais, was studied in accumulators and sensitive bioindicators useful in atmospheric fluorides. Gladiolus sp (sensitive to fluorine) and Lolium multiflorium Lam (fluorine accumulators) were grown in experimental modules and distributed in different areas in Ouro Preto country. Gladiolus sp, which were grown in areas near to the polluting source, showed larger average values of necrosed leaves while Lolium multiflorium Lam, which were 'grown in areas closer to the alluminum plant, showed à larger concentration of fluorides (45 ppm). Sensitive and atmospheric pollutant-gathering plants proved to have specific details useful in the indication of the quality of atmospheric air; however, rates of pollutant concentration in the environment are hardly obtained.
