Abstract

lncreased utilization of organk chemicals in several aspens of human accivities has led to the proportional introduction of these compounds into the environment. The indication of chis growth has been the increased roncern about the occurrence of these compounds in thc environment. This intcrest has resuhed from the recognition that many organic pollucants can cause serious adverse effects to human h.calth. The purpose of this paper is to presem the capabilities of computer assisted gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for identifying sJ)ccific organic compounds in waters, locating and verifying pollution sources, and for designing effective contrai procedures.
