Abstract

This paper discusses general concepts of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), considering the planning process of activities which ma)' cause pollution or modify the quality of the environment. The author also discusses a few questions related to obstacles involved in the application of EIA scheemes in th State of Alagoas, Brazil, and the need to improve the process 0f environmental planning and the protection of the environment.
